Theater PA replacement project
Hi Everyone,
I’m trying to initiate the process of replacing the PA system in our main campus auditorium. It’s a multi-use space that hosts concerts, dinners, lectures, dance parties, roller skating, etc.
For reference our current PA is an EAW 650 rig (5 highs, 4 subs a side) run off Crown Macro-tech amplifiers.
We recently installed a…

Hi Gina,
We just opened an e-sports cluster in our center which has a selection of the current most popular games, Fortnite, Rocket League, Counter Stike, etc. It also has 3 VR stations, two racing simulators, and a wide variety of console games, Nintendo, PlayStation, etc.
We also have a 15′ video wall in our atrium lounge. During…

Haze vs fog and sanitizer stations
Hi Gina,
A haze machine creates a finer particle mist for lack of a better explanation. Pretty much any concert you’ve ever been too in arenas and amphitheaters and even football stadiums use haze to enhance the lighting effects. It’s what allows you to see the beams of light moving across the space without being so thick as to obscure…

University-provided computers available in your meeting spaces?
Hi Jason,
Our conference rooms all have installed PCs as well as HDMI ports to connect laptops brought in by individual users. Students/fac/staff can all sign into those PCs with their campus credentials giving them access to all associated network drives as well as their university onedrive account. The PCs also have a guest account…

Event Scheduling Policies and Protocols
Hi Michael!
We’re operating under a similar principle here at SU but I’m not aware of any formal policy to pertains to academic space.
We’ve also had some struggles with buildings reducing their hours or even closing on weekends with out notifying us, causing us to lose a lot of options for student orgs on evenings and weekends,…

Hi Paul,
We’ve been using MS Visio for close to 10 years now. It’s a little cumbersome to get started but once you build your room templates they’re super simple to edit and save alternates. We’ve got a pretty robust library of standard set ups for our flex spaces now and years worth of specific events. Initially we had to pay an…

Event contract and/or policy document
Hi Everyone,
I light of some recent experiences I’m looking at creating a document to be given to student organizations prior to events that clearly states both our operational policies that may not be currently spelled out in writing, as well as some behavioral expectations from the organizers and any university affiliated performers.…

Hi Travis,
I manage two multipurpose spaces in our Schine Student Center, the larger being a 1,500 seat auditorium that we’ve done our best to turn into a theater.? When the building opened in 1985 the spaces were managed and staffed by a department that until that time was tasked with providing portable sound systems to events around campus…

Streaming services for a public space or lunch room
Hi Chelsee,
Can you elaborate on the copyright issue and who is making the argument? My (limited) understanding is that as long as you’re not advertising it as an event or collecting any kind of admission fee there’s no violation. Happy to learn more if that’s incorrect.
We get a campus wide cable bundle from Spectrum. In our…

Hi Carol,
At Syracuse we’re with Tickets.com for our student centers (which can be acad/admin sponsored) and student organization events that could include venues outside of the student centers. Everything in our athletics facilities are handled by Ticketmaster outside of my purview. Our policies can be found at …
