Streaming services for a public space or lunch room

    Hi all,?

We are looking for online streaming options for a specific area in our union that doubles as a public space and lunch room/food court. We have tried local companies in the area, Youtube, Fubo TV. The main sticking point was broadcasting movies or shows in a public setting. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

    Hi Chelsee,

Can you elaborate on the copyright issue and who is making the argument?  My (limited) understanding is that as long as you’re not advertising it as an event or collecting any kind of admission fee there’s no violation. Happy to learn more if that’s incorrect.

We get a campus wide cable bundle from Spectrum.  In our student center we have 8 decently sized HDTVs in our dining area as well as a 20′ video wall in our main atrium that all get that feed.  We have plenty of students that come to watch just about every sport, and we get some requests for awards shows but that’s about it.  When we do have the occasional advertised movie night the programming board gets the exhibition rights for that film and it’s free admission.

      Hi Scott,

The sticking point is coming from the actual companies. When we describe where it will be (or show them), then they say no due to public/commercial viewing as part of their terms and conditions. An example of that is fubo? #7b.

Thank you for the insight with Spectrum.

      Chelsee

    HI Chelsee,?

Do you mind if I post this question in the On Campus Rec and Leisure community? I am also interested in how folks do this. I have 11 screens in my area, and we can only show our DirecTV channels.?
