Hi! Ours is called the Western Hub of Living Essentials, or WHOLE. This started, I believe, in 2019, and is well known on campus with that acronym.?

      Hi Rouel!

I’ve recently started my new position doing this work, and created a new Community Service Center. We have been testing out a few different approaches to see what works for our campus. I am happy to meet and share this with you, if that is helpful.?

      Hi Milton,?

We have a pantry in our union building and several smaller pantries have popped up around campus. Ours is staffed and funded, in addition to donations and monetary donations through our Foundation office. We also collect food from our local Miracle Food Network organization (food recovery) and Trader Joe’s gives us weekly donations…

      Training program for staff/volunteers

      Hello everyone,?

I’m wondering if anyone currently runs any type of training for your staff and/or volunteers around how to handle conflict in a pantry. For example, our staff attempted to calmly and respectfully ask that a person not take the several items of the same thing they were and the person became really upset and agitated, tears and…

      Monitoring/Assessment

      Hello everyone,?

First of all, thank you for starting this!?

I am curious if other campuses are also hesitant to start monitoring their pantry spaces such as a check-in system and staffing? We have student staff that manage inventory, keep the space clean and accessible, and monitor notes left on a white board but otherwise we don’t keep track…

      Hi Laura,?

Echoing what others have said here. It can be a great benefit to campus and the community but does take a LOT of planning and resources. We did have an organization formed and they struggled keeping it successful. It started within our Entrepreneurship academic program here and had a lot of dedicated faculty support but once it became… Read more

Copyright gets so tricky and seems more complicated these days! I too ask the club (we have anime and other film-based clubs) to reach out for permissions and instructions of how to proceed, and explain the reasoning. Most times they are able to show me something in “writing” (email) or they never hear a response. We try our best and… Read more

We’ve also used Goose Chase and it was fun and the students really liked it. They would share things like what socks they were wearing today, photos of their pets, something that inspires them, shout-outs to colleagues, etc. We gave prizes to those who submitted top points. Worked especially great when we were completely online.?

      Hi Zac,?

I don’t have anything to share but this is something we have been considering for some time now as we review and revise our recognition policies. The thought was to put long-standing clubs who do a lot of programming into a tier and everyone else into a lower tier. The first would require a staff/faculty advisor and would not need… Read more
