Cashless Campus & Cash-to-Card kiosks
Hi Mike-
I will cross-reply as well…
We recently installed a cash-to-card kiosk in our union, in order to move away from cash for ticket sales, catering bars, and dining operations. Currently we are absorbing the activation fees for cards, because that still costs us less than what we were paying for armored car pick-ups for cash. That’s one…

successful commuter student spaces
Hi Mike-
Our office for off-campus and commuter student engagement is located in our union. The office staff puts together a lot of resources and experiences for commuter and off-campus students to engage and connect with the campus. Our location on the edge of campus makes us ideally suited for them to serve that population.
In terms…

City & Campus connection event
Hi Adam!
Before the pandemic we were doing an event exactly like this! I believe we called it “Columbus Ambassadors,” and our target audience was all of the RAs, with the thought being that they could share what they learned/experienced with their residents. At some point we also expanded that audience to bring in RAs from other local…

Call for Firms - RFP forthcoming
(Editor’s note – this was supposed to have posted in May, not July, thus the outdated references to spring and commencement! I am not sure what happened to the original post…
As an update, our timeline has shifted on this so an RFP is still forthcoming, just not for a few more months probably!)Hello ACUI friends!
I hope your respective…

Hi Adam-
We piloted a system like this in our union dining space, as well as another dining location on campus. It was an initiative from our student government, and we conferred with Purdue as they had a red card/green card system in use in their main dining area.Ours was a table tent style that you would flip over to indicate whether…

We try to stay away from sign holders that are adjustable or have too many moving parts, as they wear out/break down too easily and we end up having to replace them a lot.
We use this one from Azar: Azar? 17″(H) x 11″(W) Curved Metal Floor Sign Holder | StaplesIt’s a higher up front cost, but we haven’t had to replace them yet, and we’ve had…

Hi George-
We use Magik Frames for our door/window signage:https://www.magikframe.com/They are eminently reusable, and work on wood/painted surfaces as well as glass. We like the clean look they provide, and they can be adhered to the inside of the door so they are not subject to weather. They don’t leave any residue when removed, and a quick…

HI Ashley-
We just had Dr. Philip Saragoza on campus for a day-and-a-half training on WAVR-21:
The training was more focused on recognizing risk and potentially disruptive situations, but the company (Work Trauma Services) may have some resources on de-escalation training.
I would highly recommend the WAVR-21 training…

Hi Stephen-
We shift our closing time up three hours (from 11pm to 8pm) during break periods. The reasons you included (operational efficiency, lack of staffing, few/no students on campus, etc) are all part of the equation!
All break hours start the “eve” of the holiday – so for example, spring break is next week for us, so we start closing…

Hello Jen-
This topic came up on the Big Ten directors email group recently, so I am attaching a screenshot of our general conduct policies for reference. We see this issue ebb and flow in the Ohio Union throughout the year. Our proximity to the campus border means that the local unhoused population is always close by. We don’t have a…
