Hello all, my institution is hosting a leadership workshop for our student organization e-boards and I am trying to revise the program to deliver an impactful experience

    Schedule:

    • noon: Check-in
    • 12:30 pm: Keynote (30 minutes with interactive activity)
    • 1:00, 2:00, and 3:00 pm: Breakout sessions of 45 minutes (with 3-4 topics per session)
    • 4:00 pm: Closing (30 minutes with interactive activity)

I want to focus on morale, goal setting, recruitment, retention, transferrable skills, etc.?Any suggestions or thoughts??

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Joe!

Sounds like you have a great plan for your workshop. Several thoughts for consideration without knowing your context.

Might run your ideas by several student organization leaders for feedback or ask them what they hope to get out of the training sessions.

A suggestion to consider is to kickoff your session with a community building exercise or mixer to get the energy up, and students meeting and mingling with one another, and build their network with other student leaders.

Is your keynote a former student leader or alumni? Consider having a panel of former student leaders to share their experiences, perspectives, etc. They can offer perspectives as “I was in your shoes not too long ago….”

With the three sessions going back to back, that might be overwhelming for the students, unless your students are accustomed to non-stop sessions. Perhaps inserting a 20-minute snack/mindfulness/art break.

Also, consider adding a time for the e-boards to meet to process their learning together and to have them plan their next steps.

Best wishes for a productive, impactful and meaningful training for your student leaders.

Thanks for the input. I have changed up the format of the leadership workshop. We will begin with a?kickoff exercise to get the energy up, and students meeting and mingling with one another. We have a diverse pool of faculty, staff and students to give interactive workshops, not presentation and have focused on several breaks in between. Super excited to see how this goes!?
