Grub Hub & other App Ordering Only

    Hi All,

During COVID, our food service provider moved to Grub Hub ordering as the only means for ordering food at all of the retail food locations on campus. This has worked out well for our students, however it doesn’t work well for campus visitors (i.e. admissions tours and other guests who don’t know that they have to place an order in advance of arrival) who are trying to grab a quick coffee, danish, sandwich, etc. because the Grub Hub wait times can be any where from a few minutes to up 90 minutes before the order is ready.? We assumed that Grub Hub was a temporary solution, however we recently learned that it is here to stay thus eliminating the possiblilty of “real time in-person” ordering.??

My question is: Are your food service providers moving to this model as well, and if so how are they accommodating/informing the walk-in customers who don’t have 30-90 mintues to wait for a coffee and don’t know that they have to order in advance via an App??

Thank you in advance for sharing your thoughts/experiences.

    Hi Gil-
Similar to Lynette’s response in the Open Forum post, we have kiosks to allow visitors who do not have the grub hub app to place their order in-person, which get queued up in order along with incoming app orders. Wait time is generally driven by how busy the location is, but I’ve never really had more than a 10-minute wait even during our peak lunch or dinner hours.

We had been piloting use of the kiosks before the pandemic so it became a natural extension of the general pandemic operation. I believe we have one kiosk at each primary station across the operation in the union. I’ve not visited our other dining operations elsewhere on campus (don’t tell my dining director!) but I assume kiosks are in place at all but the traditional commons locations (swipe in for “all you care to eat” style).
