Alexandra – Hello! I do not know anything about this budget model. I did a google search and found that Indiana University uses this model. You might reach out to Hank Walter. He might have more information about this type of budget structure.

    Good luck!

Dana – thanks for the reply and suggestion to talk to Hank. (and hi!)

Alexandra, if you do find out more information from Hank, I’d love to learn more if you would consider posting back here and in the Facilities & Operations community when you know more. Here is the site I think Dana is referencing: https://fms.iu.edu/afb/about/. (Maybe you and Hank can present at next conference!)

        Alexandra (and Dana and Kelly):

The implementation of All Funds Budgeting had no impact on the Indiana Memorial Union; in fact I even called the Division of Student Affairs Fiscal Officer to confirm, because I wasn’t aware of it). Oversimplified, efore All Funds Budgeting, the only kinds of accounts that actually had budgets were general fund accounts (state allocations and tuition) and auxiliaries like the IMU. But when people would look at the rollups of overall University or campus financial statements compared to budget, there was always a significant amount of unbudgeted activity in other accounts, like foundation funds or certain kinds of construction projects, that made it look like the budget was off, so the University decided those kinds of accounts would be budgeted and those would show on the financial statements too, which resulted in less of a difference between budgeted and actual for the university statements.

The Union’s financial statements didn’t change at all. We do have some Foundation accounts, but they’re small and not in our chart of accounts anyway, so the fact that there’s now a budget for them didn’t matter or impact how we spent them.

I hope that helps, and that it also isn’t an issue for you. Have a great weekend!

        Hank

Hi Alexandra – How did the search for new budget model information go? Did this thread provide you with any good info? Also, would you consider writing back to the thread with your outcomes related to the new model? Thanks, Kelly
