Happy August!

This is your daily reminder to practice some form of self-care!?

It’s August, and for us student affairs professionals it means we are either frantically preparing for the student’s arrival or already have students on campus and are spending all our time planning/executing activities for them. ?Below are a few easy ways you can integrate self-care into your day:

    • Drink water
    • Make sure you eat a fruit or vegetable (Dining hall/training meals are fun, but make sure to eat at least one healthy thing!)
    • Take a 5-minute break from your computer and get outside for some fresh air
    • Ask for help when you are feeling overwhelmed (a simple, “can you run this to an office across campus” can be a lifesaver)
    • Schedule a call/vent session with a colleague “who just gets it” so you can talk about what you’ve been working on the last couple of weeks (we all know that if you don’t work in higher ed, you don’t understand the chaos that is August, reach out to those who understand)
    • Find a way to relax when you get home ? read a book for pleasure, put on an episode of your favorite TV show (New Girl is my go to because it always makes me laugh), or listen to your favorite playlist

Do you have a favorite way to practice self-care? ?Leave a comment here!

    All the joy,

    Kait

Today after working an event until midnight and not getting to bed until 1am, it meant THE WORLD to me to have a brand new co-worker say to me this morning –  “That event sounds amazing! Those videos were so cool! You put on this fantastic event – but who was there to see it beyond the students?” which we know that usually the answer is “no one”. Late night events are rarely “seen” and/or appreciated. I just wanted to thank this community for always being a listening ear and I wanted to say to you all that I SEE YOU and I know how hard you are working! Keep up the good work.

Thanks so much for this reminder. I still love the beginning of the school year! So many possibilities ahead, however I am feeling overwhelmed and tired here towards the end of the month.?

    • My new go-to for relaxing after a bust work week is watching any episode of Ted Lasso. Lots of wisdom and many laughs.
    • Thinking about professional development as self-care and not a check-off the list item.

    Be well everyone!
