Laptops in Rooms

Hi everyone! My name is Jake, I am the AV Coordinator for the Kent State University Student Center.

Our third floor has a lot of meeting spaces that are usually used by student organizations or other university departments. We are thinking about putting a laptop in each room, and are hoping to have some sort of mechanism that locks the laptop in place. Each room already has a technology cabinet that’s about four feet tall. Do you use some sort of holding or locking mechanisms for computers in any of your rooms? We are unsure of where or what to start looking at.?

    Thank you!

I found these a while back and they look great.? I haven’t used them but it would be an easy, cheap, investment to get one and see if it’ll do what you need it to do.

    Hi Jake,

Laptops generally have a slot on the side that accepts a lock. Our laptops are all locked down to AV carts or podiums. If you search the web for laptop locks you’ll find plenty of options. Make sure you check your brand of laptop for s compatible lock since some are different styles. I hope this helps.

Most laptops should have a lock slot somewhere on the sides or back where you can connect a locking cable.
    Wedge Lock

Wedge locks seems to be the most common these days but there are other types so you’ll want to check your laptop’s technical specs.
    Dell laptop

On this laptop if you scroll down to ‘Tech Specs’ then look under ‘Slots’ you’ll see it lists ‘1 wedge-shaped lock slot.’

From there you just need an anchor point for the locking cable, somewhere you can loop the cable around that won’t just slide off.? If you don’t have somewhere to do this then you can install something like this:
    Mount Anchor

    Hope that helps!

    Thank you,
