Posted by Geoff Pimlatt on March 2, 2023 at 10:45 pmIt was great making some new friends in Boston this past week, and I particularly enjoyed facilitating the Audiovisual, Technology, and Unions Roundtable session with the wonderful Paul Eleazer, Associate Director Emory Student Center Operations and Events.
If you would like to continue any of those discussions, offer some tips, or ask the group about some new problem, please create a Post in this forum, or join the Community of Practice at our next Zoom meeting.
We will next meet on March 21st at 02:00 PM EST

Replying to this as a reminder of the Monthly Zoom on Tuesday, March 21st at 2pm EST.
There have been many posts over the past few weeks about EMS vs Mazevo vs 25Live and other event management software. Let’s make that a key topic of discussion!
I hope to see many of you there.

Thanks to everyone who joined today!?
We had a good mix of EMS (both server-based and in-the-cloud) and 25Live users. Ed from 7 Point Solutions also joined the call, and offered some insight into the role his company plays in enhancing the functions of both those products.
A common thread was dissatisfaction with the level of support from EMS since they were acquired by Accruent. Support timelines have increased substantially, and the quality / accuracy of support has decreased. Some EMS users are looking at making a switch to Mazevo, inspite of the headaches involved in transition and training.
We also discussed the lack of integration between our room/event software and many of our other systems, such as club management and room access software. It was noted that 25Live supports some integration with CampusGroups.
Our conversation turned to “future proofing” new construction. Everyone agreed that video livestreaming was here to stay, although perhaps not as important as it had been during the height of the pandemic. Many of the solutions implemented then — including expensive conferencing cameras and audio equipment, or plug-and-play Solstice or AirTame device — have not been as reliable or easy to use as hoped. Hardwired A/V wall panels are still a cheap and mostly painfree solution.
Finally, we talked about the challenges that resulted from loss of institutional knowledge from not having part time staff running events for a few years. Senior full time staff are spending a lot of their time training and providing oversight on events that in the past we would have just trusted students to run. One possible solution is to build out resources in an online Learning Management System for new staff to study or have a as handy resource to call up when needed.
Our next meeting is set for Tuesday, April 11th at 2pm EST.
