As part of our pre-event meetings, if a student is looking to have a vendor, it is discussed there. Among the requirements discussed are that credit card transactions cannot be processed over the school Wi-Fi and no college branded materials can be sold. Vending is only allowed when it directly correlates to the event itself.

At William Paterson, we have student organizations that host events and want to bring in outside vendors to sell their wares (no food) at their events.  Right now we don’t have any type of vetting process for this.  If you permit this on your campus, could you share polices/procesures for students groups to obtain permission to have outside vendors on campus?

Hi Kait,

While we allow outside vendors, student organizations cannot book space for them as part of the organization’s event. The booking would be handled as a separate booking, and have to meet our overall building usage policy. The outside vendor would also pay the standard fee.

We work this way because student organizations do not have to pay for space, and historically outside vendors would take advantage of this to piggy-back on their booking to either avoid paying the outside organization fee altogether, or pay back a smaller amount to the student org.
