We’re in the beginning stages of answering these questions on our campus – below is what I know right now:?

1. We are updating our Student Code of Conduct policy, which is where our current definition of hazing lives.?

2. I’m working to get a group together to discuss the development of the programming. I know I will be reaching out to Fraternity & Sorority Life, Risk and Compliance, and Athletics. Risk and Compliance currently oversees our Campus Security Authority training and Clery reporting.??

3. It is yet to be determined who will facilitate the programming, but I imagine it will be either our office (Student Programs and Involvement) or Risk and Compliance.?

4. First we need to identify who?we will provide the training for, and that will help us determine the how (will it be for all students/faculty/staff?), so no answers yet.?

Subject: Hazing Policies and Programming

With the new Stop Campus Hazing Act that was recently signed into law, how are your campuses’ responding to the policy and programming requirements?

As I understand it, the programming:

• Must be research-informed campus-wide prevention programs designed to reach students, staff, and faculty
• Needs to be implemented by June 23, 2025
• Should include: 

• • Information about policies and laws 

  • Prevention strategies, including by-stander intervention 

  • Information about ethical leadership 

  • Promotion of strategies for building group cohesion without hazing 

Below are some specific questions I’m curious if folks can chime in on? 

1. What policies are you updating/creating related to this?
2. Who is/will be involved the development of your hazing-related programming? 
3. Who is responsible for facilitating the programming?
4. How will the programming be facilitated (online, in-person, at orientation, etc…)
