Hi Chrissie!
In January we did a CPR/AED informational session for our students and the presenters made it very engaging by what I’m told (I covered the desk so didn’t actually attend). In February we have someone coming to talk about conflict management and boundaries. These topics were brought up during semester evaluations as things the students wanted to learn more about. March and April currently aren’t planned, but I’ll be eyeballing this thread for possible ideas!
For fall, our VP wants everyone to go through ALICE training each year with Public Safety, so that will become a mainstay for our fall training beginning this year since that’s the easiest time to get everyone together. We typically try to incorporate something with diversity as well – last fall was the “Privilege for Sale” activity which brought some good discussion and three weeks ago we had a “Beliefs vs. Values” interactive session with our Director for Multiculturalism & Inclusivity. We’re hoping to have something about working and communicating with international students in the future too due to our recent increases in international student population and the demographic being one of the largest to attend our events.

Subject: Training Ideas
Happy New Year!!!! I wanted to reach out to see if folks have started thinking about training for their students? I know we host monthly all-staff meetings and I want to offer something different to the staff at these…I’ve had our Career Center and our Social Justice offices come and do presentations, but trying to think of something different and new! It could definitely be something social or educational, I’m open to anything!
Also, for those thinking about August training already (sorry, it’s how my brain works lol), any ideas for themes? outline of what your schedule may look like? offices that you always include?
Look forward to hearing from you!
