Time clock alternative due to Kronos Ransomware attack

    Hi all,

With Kronos down indefinitely, we are looking at different options. Spring classed do not start until the 1/24 so we plan on utilizing Google forms /sheets but need something more secure moving forward. Obviously, we do not want to spend a lot of money as we may have to go back to Kronos if they ever get “unhacked”.? But at the same time, I am actually concerned that our high tech oriented students are going to have some issues with an old school punch time clock.? We have about 20 students right now but will go back up to close to 100 by the 24th. Our friends in Rec Sports are also interested and they have well over 300 student employees.? What are you all using that we could deploy in the next three weeks????

Many thanks (and Happy New Year)
    Alison

    Hi Alison,

We used to have an old school punch time clock but it gave us so many problems so I found a free time clock online, called Homebase.? I was able to set it up really quickly and the students had no problem learning how to clock in/clock out. With the free version there are a couple of different time clock options including cell phone or desktop.? We started out with the staff being able to use their cell phone to clock in/out but I found that they were forgetting to do this, they were just going to thier work station and starting to work/leaving when thier shift was done.? We currently have a tablet set up in the office that they clock in/out using and they rarely forget now.? ?The staff then look at their timesheets on the app and enter their time manually on thier payroll timesheets.?

Here is the link – Join Homebase?
I also attached the step by step manual I created showing them how to clock in/out (the pictures might be the old version of the app)
If you want to talk through anything, you can email me at howarthk1@wpunj.edu or call 973-720-3472.

    All the joy,
    Kait

    Hi Alison –

Happy New Year! We still have an old school time clock in our Student Center, but we do use When I Work to schedule students. There is a time clock function in When I Work where students can punch in and out on their phones. I am not sure how well it works.

    Best,?
