Student Staff Uniforms
Posted by Adriane Reilly on May 6, 2024 at 1:51 pmHello, everyone!?
We’re taking a moment to reconsider our student staff uniforms. Other than polo shirts and quarter zip sweatshirts, what do your building manager staffs wear for a uniform? Pics encouraged! Are the uniform items property of the department and must be returned? Do the students pay for them and get to keep them? What’s your replacement system for uniforms??
Thanks in advance for your input!
Best,
Adriane?

Hello friend!? ?We do have the same thing…polos and 1/4 zip fleeces!!!? We also have spirit Wednesdays where the staff can wear any Rutgers tops for the day.? We also try to work in different fun days where sports jerseys are okay to wear as well.? Right now, we do not have it specifically listed that the polos and fleeces have to be returned, but some will give them back when they leave/graduate.? Our student employees do not pay for uniforms.? Each new hire receives 2 polo shirts and a fleece.? Each summer, we give returning staff one additional polo.? We also keep a small order of long sleeve polos on hand in case needed.? Enjoy the photos and let me know if you need anything else! ?

Mainly responding to bump and follow this post since we are exploring as well.?
So at App we go the polo route too but have done some special attire over the years for our “peak performers” (little mountain pun there for our employees of the month).? We have done sweatshirts (which could be purchased) as well as baseball hats and winter hats which all can be worn while on shift.? We do provide the polos and have special colors indicating different teams such as our building supervisors vs our operations assistants.? We do ask for them back as people leave but we aren’t really strict there as it’s more about the sustainability piece then the cost.? That said it is a hefty cost hence why I am interested if others have tried different methods.——————————

Hello!
We offer all of our staff one polo (black for Info/Arcade, gray for Building Managers) at the beginning of the year.? We also used to offer them full zip fleeces because the desk is right next to the entrance doors and it gets really cold.? The staff?hated the fleeces so I’m now letting them choose their winter gear.? They can pick from a 1/4 zip, crew neck, full zip non fleece, or long sleeve polo.? I then use the circut to put the school logo on it.? Cricut-ing is a lot of extra work, but it does save money on imprint costs (I think).? I order everthing from amazon and because we have an amazon business acount, sometimes I can save money if I buy in bulk.? I haven’t figured out if it is 100% cost effective, but I like that the students can pick what they want to wear – its proven they are more likely to wear it than the fleeces they hated.
I also recently started telling the staff that if they want to purchase their own long sleeve gear outside of what we give them, I will circut the logo on what they purchase.
The cricut is also used to put names on polos to replace name badges because they never wore their badges properly.? This should definitly save me some money!
All the joy,
Kait?

Hi all!
We used to be just Under Armour polos and 1/4 zips (but not fleece), but we transitioned probably a year or two ago to let students wear branded t-shirts, sweatshirts, etc. This year, we let them wear just school colors, but we will likely return to branded only for next year – as some students didn’t stick to this and it was harder to police if they were actually wearing school colors or not, handling disputes about so-and-so isn’t wearing branded items but they were told they had to, etc.
We typically also give out an event t-shirt of some kind each year, which they typically keep, which they can also wear on shift. (Building Managers and Desk recently transitioned over to Student Involvement/Activities ~1.5 years ago) The Game Day T-shirts are a collaboration with Athletics. They give them out during the Student Organizations Involvement Fair and encourage students to wear these to games, we pitch in some money to help pay for the shirts, and then we get some for our new student employees to wear. The black shirt is what Operations uses, but they have invited our staff to have one if they want one for next year. Lastly, we have a bunch of XL plain red fleece vests available, so if they don’t have anything else with them they are supposed to throw over the top.?
Most of the items they have to return – polos, zip ups, vests, Operations t-shirt, but they get to keep the Game Day and Event staff shirts.

I’ll add that we don’t have a one-to-one ratio for the vests. We just like like 7-10 on a hook in the back! Which saves some $
