Hi there Chuck!!!??
Here at Rutgers University-Camden, I wouldn’t say that we have a defined student staff recognition program, but we do many different things throughout the year to let our staff know how great they are!? First, during training each summer, we typically end training with an off-campus (depends on budget) activity where we just have a good time to kick off the school year.? Throughout the year, we do things like pizza or donut days, which are just randomly planned.? We also highlight their birthdays on our Instagram and in our office.? Also, any time anyone is graduating, I work with our alumni office to get them some swag.? At each end of the semester, we host end of the year parties…in the winter, anyone that is leaving gets a paper plate award (think camp, hand drawn superlative award) and then at the end of the spring semester, everyone gets a paper plate award.? At the end of the year, we also do a peer nominated MVP award.? Last, in April, for National Student Employee Appreciation Week, we do a ton of different things, again based on budget.? We always have a bag out for each employee where peers and supervisors can write notes for their bags throughout the week, drop fun things like free Starbucks drinks, snacks, stickers in their bag and they take their bag at the end of the week.??
I’m excited to hear what others do as well!!!

Hello Chuck!
We do a few different things at University of Michigan – Ann Arbor. We have our end of term (April) large student celebration where we have awards, trivia and photo spaces. We also provide goodie bags the week or two before finals. These include easy grab and go snacks that students can have with them while studying and not have to purchase (usually average about $3/bag for about 300 student employees). We also provide graduation cords and key chains for those who are working with us the term they graduate. We also have an allocated fund for supervisors to recognize their students each term and encourage them to do so throughout the term and not only pay for a singular meal, though some do. Finding ways to recognize student employees throughout the term instead of solely at the end.?
Like Chrissie, I am excited to see what others do!??

All,
For the student team members working for the IUPUI Campus Center, we have a variety of things we do throughout the year.
1. ? ?Ongoing shout out section in our weekly e-newsletter (information provided by Building Managers in their reports or submitted via a form linked in the newsletter)
2. ? ?Jagtastic Awards ? (based on our mascot, the Jaguar) informal note paper with the outline of a jaguar paw are provided in the student break room, and any student or pro staff member can leave a note for any other team member. A couple years ago, we actually created a special bulletin board in the shape of a Jaguar head and paws.
3. ? ?Snacks (candy, chips, pop tarts, etc.) provided on random day throughout the semester in the student break room and at work area team meetings
4. ? ?Director’s Honor Roll ? like our dean’s list; students with a semester GPA of 3.5 or above received a certificate signed by the Director and we display a poster with all the honorees’ names for each semester
5. ? ?Division of Student Affairs has provided IUPUI spirit t-shirts to staff (including student employees) a couple times over the last couple of years
6. ? ?End of the Semester Gathering (fall, spring)-an on-the-clock event that includes a dinner buffet, recognition of team members departing for internships or graduation, and social time in the game room
7. ? ?Senior mugs ? team members working for us when they graduate, or when they leave for their last semester for an internship receive a large black mug with a picture of the Campus Center on it
8. ? ?National Student Employee Appreciation Week ? the IUPUI Office of Student Employment sponsors a couple of events and we have different things going on through the week (this year it’s April 8-12) including a thank you note signed by all the pro staff for each team member, a large word cloud poster with each team member’s name include-usually in a shape related to the campus theme for the week, lots of food, and small give-aways. This week also include the Office of Student Employment’s Student Employee of the Year Awards event, and we always nominate at least one of our team members. They get a nomination certificate and get to attend the awards ceremony (on the clock). We’ve even had a couple winners over the years.?
9. ? ?Division recognition of students ? whenever our division or other divisions are doing anything to recognize students, we try to nominate one of our team members. Several have been featured in social media posts and newsletter articles.
10. ? ?Tenure-based raise to hourly wages ? at the beginning of each fiscal year, each continuing team member gets a raise based on how many months during the previous academic year they were on the roster. It’s not a lot, but it’s a token of our appreciation.Feel free to reach out to me at lwardham@iu.edu if you have any questions.

Ooh these are great ideas and reminded me that I have also asked leadership to write thank you notes…this past year though, instead of a thank you note, I asked them to donate a gift card or something up to $25 and then we did a raffle for our student employees to win those items.? This could be done during National Student Employment week or at the end of the year banquet.?

At UMBC we are still working on building a recognition program. We “borrowed” Chrissie’s Paper Plate Awards, which we give out at an end-of-the-year party. We hold a drop in catered? lunch at the end of the semester, and the end of the year.? Finger foods like kabobs, wings, samosas. We also have a graduating senior recognition call out and we give them alumni swag. We do “grab and go” bags, where we fill tables with snacks and drinks for finals. Finally, I utilize my neighborhood “Buy Nothing” group and get lots of items that we use as raffle prizes. Last semester, one student walked away with a brand new espresso machine.

1. Once a month, our office hosts student staff meetings that are paid, where we provide lunch and snacks for the students, and provide them professional development to help them grow as student leaders.
2. We host a student staff appreciation week that coincides with the National Student Employee Engagement Week where we host a variety of themed activities, provide different snacks and goodie bags. The culmination of the week is students getting raffle tickets and placing them tricky tray style into prizes that our professional staff have donated- those range from a $10 Dunkin gift card to “hiking with staff member x”. All students get a ticket at the start of the week and if they participate in events during? the week or donate (up to 3) non perishable items to our food pantry, they get additional tickets.?
3. At the end of the school year, we invite students to an end of the year celebration where we serve food, honor students with awards and present senior staff members with blankets to thank them for their contributions to our office.?——————————
