Hi Erin,

We had a 30th birthday party for our Schine Student Center in 2005.? We had a public birthday party in our main atrium during the lunch hour with a cake that our bakery was able to make in the shape of our center and decorated to match which was formally cut by our Chancellor and mascot. We also had some other giveaways and a small history of Schine photo exhibit featuring the construction process, ribbon cutting, major events hosted in the center and pics of everyday student life.

The timing also coincided with our Homecoming so we put together a showcase featuring all our dance and a capella groups.? The show ended with with a dance number to Nickelback’s Photograph which featured a history of Schine slideshow (some duplicates from the exhibit, some new) while the dancers danced with a photo album.? Our naming donor was in attendance and was very moved by it.?

We’ve had other celebrations, pre and post renovation, but that was our only anniversary one to date. The Homecoming Showcase became an annual event that is still occuring, only taking a pause for covid.

We celebrated 50 years of the Madison Union last fall. Food, music, cake was much appreciated. ?But the big hit was tie die shirts with a white logo on them. Still in demand!!!
