    Greetings ACUI Family!?

We are in the process of forming an advisory group for the Student Union that will be primarily students with some other campus partners. Was looking for any resources that folks have and are willing to share in regards to:

    • Structure (what committees do you have, what works, what doesn’t, who is on it, etc)
    • Bylaws or constitution (what rules are used)
    • Frequency of meeting?
    • Other items that could be helpful!?

    Thanks!

    Greetings!

We have two SGA groups that are attached to University Centers operations/activities:

University Centers Advisory & Policy Board (UCAPB) – Student Government Association
    http://www.uwsp.edu/sga/Pages/UWSPSGA-UniversityCentersAdvisoryandPolicyBoard…?

    And

Policy Advisory Committee for Student Organizations (PACSO) – uwsp.edu/sga/Pages/UWSPSGA-PolicyAdvisoryCommitteefortheStudentOrganizations

The links are doing strange things in this… you can also go to our school website and search SGA.?

    Hi Clayton,
Here is a link to Western Michigan Univesity’s Bernhard Center Advisory Board (BCAB) web page: https://wmich.edu/studentcenter/about/bcab .? You’ll see a link to the charter on it.? Wee meet roughly once a month, and we occassionally have subcommittees that meet weekly while doing subcommittee work.? BCAB does not do any programming, but the Board is interested in adding that compenent next year, so I’d be interested if that is something you are considering or other boards do.? Happy to answer any specific questions.? Feel free to email me directly: paul.terzino@wmich.edu.

    Best,
    Paul

Thank you everyone for the great resources! Might make for an interesting round table some time to discuss pros/cons of each model and what has changed as a result of covid.

    Clayton,
The Armstrong Student Center Board is an all student board (student fees being the sole university funding source) made up of 15 members.? 6 are from designated student groups (programming board, student government, diversity affairs) and 9 are “at large” members selected by application for 2 year terms. There is one standing committee that manages student organization office space and each year 4 additional committees based upon the interests of the group.? This year is Art, Sustainability, DEI and Civic Engagement. Officer positions are chair, finance, communications and a position that oversees the student organization office space committee. Reach out if you’d like more information on our model.

    Best wishes,
    Katie

Hi Clayton, attached is the bylaws for the Student Advisory Board (SAB) for the Memorial Union at Oregon State University.

The board is made up of students faculty and staff.? The SAB votes to recommend our budget which is largely student fee funded.? For student members vote on the budget.? The full board will vote on everything else.??

I love working with our board.? They review space requests, polices reviews, capital planning, services the MU provides.? Pretty much soup to nuts.

Let me know if you want to chat more.
