We’re pretty hands off with our policies for Orgs. However, we do have policy around reservations, finances, and risk management. For elections, we don’t have a mandated process, just a suggested one, which is in our template constitution.
ELECTIONS
- Officer Elections: The election shall occur the day of the final general meeting of the [Fall/Spring] semester.
- Special Elections: A notice of a special election must be announced to all officers and members at least 7 days prior to the next general meeting. The election shall occur on the day of said general meeting.
- Nominations: The nomination period for officer positions will begin 7 days before the election day and be considered final the day before the election. Any member may nominate any other member or themselves.
- Ballots and Voting: Voting will take place on LU Hub via a secret (anonymous) ballot. On the ballot, the names of the candidates shall be listed randomly along with the option to abstain (no vote) for a position must be an option.
- Results: A simple majority vote is required to win an election. The results shall be announced as soon as possible after the election results are in.
- If a candidate is running unopposed, at least 3 votes must be cast in their favor.
- If there are more than two candidates running and no candidate receives a majority vote, there shall be a run-off vote between the top two vote recipients within 72 hours.

Hi All,
If student organization oversight falls under your student union/student center umbrella, I have a question.
Do any of your campuses over a guide for how to hold student organization officer elections?
We don’t have standardized processes for this and allow orgs to manage themselves, but we’ve received enough inquiries this year that we’d like to put together a guide for organizations. Please share if you have anything like this.
Thanks!
