Our student organizations are covered through our university policy as long as they register their event through our process.? As for club sports our office purchases a catastrophic policy (https://nirsa.net/portfolio-items/discounts-nirsa-insurance/) that covers our club sports additionally.

Our organizations are covered in normal activities. In event process, if it is demeaned high risk we ask they get event insurance through the institution.

On club sports, our group is covered through the recreation center and athletics group insurance. Some clubs have additional policies but are not required. At this moment, our institution does not provide any funding to our student organization. Club sports has some funding yearly that is allocated to our students but it has been based on need and participation.??

Our student organizations are not required to have a standing insurance policy. Some events require certificates of insurance due to the nature of the activities. There was discussion a number of years ago (maybe nine years ago now) about requiring insurance for orgs at all UW campuses. Ultimately this idea was dropped for a variety of reasons. There is no clear guidance on using student fees to purchase this insurance for a particular event. So far, orgs have purchased the certificates using other funding sources.

The University of South Carolina Campus Recreation currently carries general liability, accident and catastrophic insurance on all sport clubs.

The definition of a sport club has changed a few times over the past 15 years (when we first started carrying this insurance) but we currently cover ~40 sport clubs (or former sport club, current student orgs).

At Illinois State, we have two classifications of RSOs – sponsored and independent. Sponsored RSOs are covered by university liability insurance. Independent RSOs are not. The university may require an independent RSO to purchase special event insurance, which I’m pretty sure the RSO can request through our event funding process. We also provide brief risk management information to RSOs on our event planning webpage including links to two insurance companies.?
