    Good Morning,

We are currently looking for new vendors to fill several vacant storefronts in our union. We’re considering options such as a hair and nail salon, a cell phone repair shop, and/or a cell phone provider kiosk/store. I’m interested to know if anyone has had success with these types of retailers. What other types of retailers/vendors have been successful in your student unions?

I’ve experienced two successful hair salon installations, one at UCLA and the other at UNC Charlotte.? At Charlotte when we opened the new Student Union in 2009 the salon was one of the first tenants and remains there to this day, generating consistent income to the union and providing a needed and valued service to the campus.

University of Houston is similar to UW:

Our Lost and Found will accept anything found on campus except for the following:

Wet, dirty, or soiled items trashed
Underwear, socks, bras, bathing suits, or other undergarments trashed
?Toiletries, cleaning products, chemicals, or detergents trashed
Food items, containers with food inside, or other perishables trashed
Full water bottles, coffee mugs, or other liquid-filled containers (we ask finders to empty fluids before turning in, however we commonly bend this rule and empty water bottles ourselves)
Knives with blades longer than 6 inches, other weapons, controlled/illegal substances, and paraphernalia (Finders must contact UW Police)
After one-month items with be turned into women’s shelter of greater Houston. Also, student IDs are turned into the ID section and keys / money to UHPD weekly.
