    Hi everyone,
My name is Adam Dunbar and I oversee our Student Center at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. We are currently looking at ways to incorporate Wellness for students into our building both passively and actively. One of ideas that has come up is that of massage chairs.

I am hoping some of you? here may have experience with massage chairs in your Unions/Student Centers.

Specifically, I am looking for vendors, service contract providers for maintenance,? usage policies/procedures, and overall feedback. Any information would be beyond helpful. My email is: adam_dunbar@uml.edu.

    Thank You in Advance,
    Adam

    Hi Adam,
We know that our member student centers at West Chester, UC-Irvine, the Oasis Center at UC-Northridge, the University of Miami, University of South Florida, Florida Atlantic, Cal State-Channel Islands, Long Beach State, and The College of New Jersey, to name a few, either do or have had permanent massage chairs in their buildings, although not sure of their status now during omicron. Many others bring them in temporarily for wellness, destress, orientation, and other special events. We’ll send you some contacts at a few of these locales in a private message. ACUI would love to identify a vendor in this business to join as an associate member as well!

    Hello Adam,
We have two mechanical massage chairs in the Wake Forest Wellbeing Center that we have had for several years.  They have held up really well under pretty heavy use and haven’t required any maintenance other than regular cleaning.  The manufacturer is Inada and the model is Dreamwave HCP-11001A.
Here is a link to this product:
Alongside the chairs, we have disinfectant wipe with instructions for students to wipe down the chairs following use …similarly to how they are asked to do following use of cardio and weight equipment.
We also consider the Hydromassage Lounge 440X chairs.  Here is a link to that product:

We purchased two massage chairs at the University of Rochester and put them in a public lounge in our Campus Center. Unfortunately, they proved to be way more hassle than they were worth. Students broke them seemingly every other week by messing around and trying to force their way out of the chair before it was turned off. They had out of order signs on them more often than they worked, which didn’t give a good reputation. We couldn’t continue to get them repaired so we ended up removing them after only a year or so.
