Managing Digital Signage Queue

I am curious how other universities handle/manage the number of digital advertising slides that loop on your building monitors?
Currently, we do not have a limit on the number of unique slides that are in our queue that loop through the slide show.  Any registered student organization or University department can submit a slide to be shown on our building monitors.  Displays are limited to 3 weeks per semester, and can be consecutive. We allow any campus event to be advertised, and do not limit it to events that happen at the IMU (i.e. Athletics department submits individual slides for each baseball game, gymnastics meet, etc.).
We recently noticed that it takes SEVERAL minutes, at an average of 10 seconds/slide, for someone to see all the slides in the loop.  So if you catch a glimpse of something of interest, but missed an important piece of information, you will be standing there a while before the slide cycles through again.

If you have links to websites or policies you are willing to share, we would love to know how others manage the demand to use digital signage for advertising.

    Thank you!

Here at Pittsburg State, since the digital signage in the Student Center was purchased by my department we limit what goes on it. ?Any registered student organization can have any event they sponsor on or off-campus on our signage. ?I usually limit it to three weeks from the event and the slide is up for 12 seconds in the normal rotation. ?Departments can advertise on it only if their event is in the building. ?So no athletic events, no events in our performing arts center, etc. Since our Bookstore and Food Service are in the building they are also allowed to advertise. I explain to the campus that our priority is for student activities and the Student Center. ?Is everyone happy, no but our policy is supported by administration. ?I do allow a couple of exceptions such as promoting fall and spring commencements, but that’s about it. ?

Also, all artwork must be done by the sponsoring group or department and we do not allow any paid off-campus advertisements.

    Hope that helps.

    Jeff

We limit our digital signage to 20 flyers in each region at a rate of 15 seconds each.? (Some of our monitors allow for side-by-side flyers.) This gives us a five minute rotation, which seems to work well.? We have different advertising rates depending on their level of affiliation (Student orgs pay $50 for 14 days, OSU departments pay $100 per 14 days and non-OSU affiliated pay $200 for 14 days.).? We do not prorate and they can only advertise for 14 days at a time to allow others the opportunity.

    Hope that helps!

We also limit our digital signage to 12 flyers in each building at a rate of 15 seconds each.?All registered student organizations can have the event on our signage with student life approval first. I usually limit it to two weeks from the event, and the slide is up for 12 seconds in the regular rotation. Departments can advertise on it with the same policy. I do not advertise personal flyers, off-campus, etc. Athletics hardly uses the digital signage system on campus. I get a lot of pushback, but also administration supports my office, so it’s the discretion of the director (me) and my assistant director.?
