Digital Signage
Posted by Z Paul Reynolds on September 6, 2023 at 1:04 pmHey everyone!
Is anyone out there charging external organization to advertise on digital signage that you might manage?? If so, would you be willing to share your charging structure…AND, maybe, what software you’re using?? We’re currently using Bright Signs…but it’s clunky.? We’re looking at ScreenCloud…but it’s EXPENSIVE.? Ideas?
Thanks!
Paul

Hi Paul,
Screens in our community centre are a mix of BrightSign (directly controlled by us) and Visix (part of a campus wide network, but we program the TVs in the building).? Both are a little clunky!
I use the ViewSonic media player and their free programming tool, Signange Manager, on electronic wayfinding screens we have set up on each floor. That solution is best for content that only rarely changes, however, as it is even clunkier than BrightSpace!
We only provide promotions on the screens as part of a package when organizations or businesses rent space in the building.? We don’t offer it as a “stand alone” paid service.
The University is will phase out support for Visix by the end of this year, so we will also need to either look to expand BrightSign players to those screens or come up with a different solution for all screens. What is your timeline? I’ll be happy to post our research when we move on this project, in the next month or so.

Hi Paul,We use Carousel Cloud and it works really well. We are able to manage monitors individually, or create a playlist for multiple monitors to have the same playlists, within a couple of hours per week.We do not allow outside organizations to advertise on our monitors, but it does sound like an interesting revenue idea. In addition to pricing structure, I am curious about the rubric one might use to determine allowable content (ex: political content, alcohol, etc.) as well as how to balance the number of outside ads so they do not overtake internal content.Stephen Arthur

Hi! We use a product called Poppulo (formerly Four Winds). It was super clunky and could only be accessed from a PC desktop prior to their upgrade a year ago. With the upgrade our Mac based marketing office can now get into the software. It is pretty complex, but it allows us to customize channels and playlists so we can have rotating ads in part of the building, static menus up in another part of the building, and an interactive display up in a third area. For our advertising, we use a web based registration form to allow clients to reserve paid screen space in one week increments, which are then deployed through the Poppulo platform. We have a shared contract system between our student center, housing, and health centers but each building manages their own content.??

Hi Paul-
We use REACH for our digital flyer program and Daily Event listing screens. It is very easy to navigate when posting and scheduling content.
Here is a link to our cost set for digital flyers. https://www.asucla.ucla.edu/digital-advertising?
Best of luck to you.

When I was at UNLV the student union managed digital signage for internal and external clients, here’s their guidelines:I believe they used Axis TV/Visix Player. For pricing and such, I’d suggest reaching out to the reservations team: eventservices@unlv.edu.
