Bowling Maintenance

    Hi Folks!

I oversee the Breakzone at Virginia Tech, which includes an 8 Lane bowling alley, using the Qubica AMF 82-70 machines. To put it plainly, these machines can be tough to maintain at certain times, and our staff support model that we have currently is not sustainable to keeping them well-maintained (trained Maintenance professionals who work Monday-Friday 7AM-4PM, and students only on evenings and weekends). Student staff fluctuate in how comfortable (or uncomfortable) they can be with familiarizing themselves with the lanes (some are super jazzed to learn the mechanics and try new things, versus some who are just hesitant and less confident in those technical abilities). Myself personally, I’m?getting there with lane maintenance comfort, but am definitely not skilled enough to provide over the phone support as often as it’s needed.

My questions for this group are as follows:

    1. If you have a bowling alley, what is your maintenance support model? How do you train your student staff (if you do) to maintain your bowling lanes? Do you require them to obtain any certifications? Any other details are welcomed
    2. Do you also use these models of bowling machines? I would love to connect and see if you have any specific tips and tricks, or other learned experiences you could share.

Looking forward to hearing your ideas/thoughts/experiences!
