    Hi ACUI,

I recently sat through an information presentation/demo for a company offering Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) for ASL to/from English and Spanish through an app that connects the user with an interpreter who can video chat with a hard of hearing or deaf individual and then speak with a hearing individual, allowing for a conversation to happen without needing to wait for an in-person interpreter.

Our campus does have a process for in-person interpreters to be requested for things like courses, events, meetings, etc., but this service would allow for shorter/unplanned interactions, like getting a question answered at an Information Desk, or even providing first responders with important information in an emergency situation.

The service seems like something that could elevate our ability to serve our hard of hearing and deaf community on our campus, but I’m curious if anyone here has utilized a similar VRI service currently or did in the past and what your experiences have been and what company you’ve worked with for this.

Thank you in advance for any insight y’all are able to share. I’m also going to be double-posting this in the DE&I CoP.

    Cheers,
