Room Indicator Light Logic — Has Anyone Flipped the Script?
Hi everyone,
We’re exploring a tweak to how our <strong data-start=”421″ data-end=”451″>meeting room status lights communicate availability, and I’d love to hear if anyone has tried something similar (or found other creative solutions to prevent “squatters” when locking doors isn’t practical).
Currently, our rooms use:
<ul data-start=”661″ data-end=”752″>
🔴 <strong data-start=”666″ data-end=”673″>Red = In Use
🔵 <strong data-start=”690″ data-end=”698″>Blue = Setup in Progress
🟢 <strong data-start=”726″ data-end=”735″>Green = Not Reserved
The challenge is that many guests interpret <strong data-start=”798″ data-end=”807″>green as “available,” even though most of our rooms aren’t instant-bookable. That’s led to folks ducking in, rearranging furniture, or leaving behind trash between reservations.
We’re considering <strong data-start=”1001″ data-end=”1023″>flipping the logic so that:
<ul data-start=”1033″ data-end=”1177″>
🔴 <strong data-start=”1038″ data-end=”1045″>Red = <em data-start=”1048″ data-end=”1075″>Not in Use / Do Not Enter
🔵 <strong data-start=”1083″ data-end=”1091″>Blue = <em data-start=”1094″ data-end=”1126″>Setup in Progress (Staff Only)
🟢 <strong data-start=”1134″ data-end=”1143″>Green = <em data-start=”1146″ data-end=”1175″>Reserved — Open for Meeting
In this model, <strong data-start=”1194″ data-end=”1221″>red becomes a deterrent, clearly signaling “stop,” while <strong data-start=”1255″ data-end=”1335″>green only appears when a group is actively using or about to use the space.
Has anyone else implemented a reversed indicator system like this — or found alternative strategies for managing unsupervised rooms and preventing unauthorized use when locking doors isn’t feasible?
Appreciate any insights, signage examples, or tech setups that have worked well for you
