Menstrual Care Products

The Minnesota legislature passed a spending package that requires students in grades 4-12 and colleges and universities to have menstrual care products available at no charge. Based upon the language of the spending package, our campus is planning to provide access to menstrual care dispenser and disposal solutions in all restrooms. However, installation of free vending machines is cost prohibitive, and we are looking for best options/practices for dispensing when many of our restrooms lack counters.? For those institutions that have implemented similar practices, do you have any recommendations for a standardized method to dispense?? What about disposal?? We’ve considered small waste cans in each stall as an option, as this may also have the benefit of addressing cultural restroom practices that frequently lead to clogged toilets.? If you have any insights on this topic, please share here or contact me directly.

    Thank you,

    Hi there James,?

New Jersey also just passed this law within the last year or so and we were able to work directly with our Facilities department for them to purchase, fill, and maintain the dispensers in our bathrooms.? We did not put them in all of our restrooms, but definitely in all of our all-gender restrooms, and our 2 main lady’s rooms. I know that they are also in our library and rec center on campus.? Prior to this, we already had small metal trash receptacles in each of the stalls.? Let me know if you would like me to connect you with our Facilities Director, as he would be able to share costs.??
