    Hello,?

For those facilities that have meditation/reflection spaces, how is it managed? Are there parameters on use? Rules to engaging in the space? We just recently got a space designated for these purposes, but it is the first of its kind on campus, and I’ve been tasked with trying to put some parameters on the space. Please share, I’m also open to hopping on a call/zoom if that would be easier to relay information. Thank you!?

    Hello!

Our Building Manager unlock/lock the space during opening/closing rounds.  It is not a reservable space and is open whenever the building is open.  Custodial is supposed to clean it every night, but that doesn’t always happen.  UC Operations provides shoe covers for people to use that don’t want to take their shoes off.  Below are the guidelines for using the space.  Hope this helps a little!

The prayer and meditation room is located on the third floor of the Student Center in Room 330.  The prayer and meditation room is meant to serve and support all students and the holistic wellness of the university community.  This space allows individuals of all religious faiths and non-religious beliefs to experience a place for peace, prayer, meditation and/or reflection throughout the day.  The space is not intended for any organized programs or meetings.  The prayer and meditation room is available for students to use whenever the Student Center is open.

    Prayer & Meditation Room Guidelines

The guidelines below must be followed when using this Space:

    • Please be mindful of others in the space. Enter quietly if appropriate.
    • Cellular phones must be placed on silent upon entry.
    • No food or beverages (with the exception of water) are allowed in the room.
    • We encourage you to remove your shoes prior to entering the room. Storage cubbies are provided in the hallway for your use. If you are unable to remove your shoes, disposable shoe coverings have been provided for you to help keep the floor clean.
    • Music is to be listened to through headphones or earbuds. No loud music is permitted.
    • No posters, signs, brochures, or other displays are to be placed inside or outside the room at any time.
    • The use of fire, including lit candles or incense, is not permitted in the room or building.
    • Symbols of faith must be removed or stored in cabinets within the space after individual usage. Please refrain from storing symbols of faith in the hallway storage cubbies.
    • Please keep the room clean. All personal materials are to be removed from the space after use. Mats/carpets need be returned to the allotted location. Furniture must remain in the room and restored to the original position. No items are to be removed from the room.
    • Mutual respect of others is expected at all times.
    • This room is not intended to be used as a lounge, study room, meeting room, or for other purposes.
    • Gatherings that cannot be conducted without disrupting other activities or users in the room should be done in other rooms or locations.

For any spills, damages, or maintenance issues, please contact the Information Desk located on the first floor of the Student Center at 973-720-2292.

    All the joy,

    Kait
