Fireplace Safety?

Hello friends, happy Friday.? Fall means time to light pilot lights in a couple rooms of ours, and I’m looking for suggestions around safety.? I have two gas fireplaces that have on/off switches readily accessible to anyone who wants to come sit near them. We like that students can turn them on and use them as intended, but we don’t like that they get left on when nobody is there (and our staff just happen to walk through and catch it during a building round).? They are not enclosed flames – just open to the room.? And last year, someone definitely tried to burn paper or something on the flame because we had to clean black soot off the fireplace exterior where flames obviously licked the stone.? Does anyone have suggestions on how you keep the fireplaces accessible (ideally self-serve with on/off) as well as safe and cozy?? I’d love to see pictures of screens/barriers/signage if you have any to share!
