    Did you know?

September is recognized as National Campus Safety Awareness Month (NCSAM). In 2008, Congress unanimously designated this month to promote public dialogue around critical issues like violence prevention and campus safety at colleges and universities across the country.

It’s a great time to consider organizing something in your college union to raise awareness—whether it’s an event, campaign, or resource-sharing effort. A quick online search can lead you to a wide range of creative ideas and helpful tools to get started.

If you come up with something unique or would like feedback, don’t hesitate to share your thoughts on the forum!

    Here are just a few…

Safety Scavenger Hunt: Host a campus-wide scavenger hunt that highlights emergency stations, counseling centers, etc.

Glow Walk or Night Safety Walk: Partner with campus police or safety officers for a nighttime event to walk through campus paths, pointing out areas that need better lighting or more visibility.

Interactive Self-Defense or Situational Awareness Workshops: Invite professionals to lead hands-on sessions—these are usually well attended and appreciated by students.
