May is Mental Health Awareness Month
Hello everyone!
Did you that May is Mental Health Awareness Month?
According to the National Alliance for Mental Illness, 1 in 5 students face mental health conditions. Nearly three-quarters of mental health conditions emerge by age 24, so many college students are facing mental health concerns for the first time, and may not know where to go for support. The stats for adults is about the same. It is not uncommon to experience burn-out, stress, and anxiety balancing competing demands and leading others through transitions. The good news is that organizations like NAMI offer resources and a path to find help.??
I truly believe our workplaces and family spaces are as healthy as the folks who inhabit them. It is my hope that through this community, we can provide ideas to manage the changes we face. For some this may mean self-care in the form of gardening, long walks, moments of mindfulness, and for others that may mean taking a “mental health day” to regroup and recharge.?As you prepare for commencement season and shift your focus toward the horizon, I encourage you to do a check-in with yourself and others. Sometimes just knowing other folks are “taking a beat” gives us the permission we need to do the same.?
Be well,
