The Husky Union Building at the University of Washington-Seattle will celebrate its 75th Anniversary this coming October (2024).  I would appreciate people sharing what they did for not only a 75th anniversary, if they have had one, but other anniversary ideas are also welcome.

 

Past staff did 25th and 50th anniversary celebrations, and we have those records, but are interested in expanding our horizons.

We would love to hear what you have done at your respective campuses!

Hi Monica!

We are currently celebrating our 75th here at the University of North Texas. March was our major celebration but we are doing things throughout the year. This is what we have done so far:

• Union Fest – Annual all-day event held in early March to celebrate the University Union. This year, we focused on it being the 75th so we added a few special things this year for the day’s festivities.?
  • Fireworks off our rooftop
  • We worked with our University Archivist to see about incorporating past Union artifacts. While they didn’t have a lot, they had recently received a neon sign for a space that used to be in our Union. We were able to hang the neon sign for the Rock Bottom Lounge and incorporate the story of how it returned to UNT.
  • The design for Union Fest incorporated the 75th celebration.
• Marketing Efforts
  • Designed banners that represent the 4 renovations of our building. (Picture attached showing two of them). These banners went up in Feb and are still hanging. We worked with the University Archivist to help locate pictures for the banners.
  • A 75th Logo was created. Stickers and gold enamel pins were printed to pass out.?
  • Nametags: New nametags were ordered for our staff to celebrate the year. They were given out on a nice thank you card along with the enamel pin. (pic attached)

We are still brainstorming ways to continue the celebration. We have tossed around the idea of having a reception to invite past employees of the Union to campus to celebrate.?
